Glasgow’s biggest museum comes to life with research throughout the day! Find our researchers in Kelvingrove museum and join in with hands-on demonstrations on a wide range of topics and appreciate the architecture of the building with a walking tour (see below).
Exploring Kelvingrove’s architectural design and conservation
Join researchers from the University of Strathclyde, for a short tour of the building highlighting its architectural design (including its Spanish connection) and construction, its designation as Category A Listed building and the conservation challenges.
Using old photographs and drawings, children will have the opportunity to learn what architects do, how buildings are designed, built and conserved as well as to experience the different materials present in the building, including colours, forms and textures (tours at 12pm and 2pm, sign up in advance in the main hall).
Meanwhile historians from the University of Glasgow will be uncovering some of Erskine’s amazing history in treated wounded soldiers in World War 1 and our scientists will have with games and exhibits to uncover the mysteries of sleep.
